About The Bath Psychology Clinic

The Bath Psychology Clinic is a specialist psychology service, set up by Dr Philippa Spencer in order to provide talking therapy and support for people affected by physical health conditions. She offers psychological assessment, treatment and support for anyone from the age of 18 years who is experiencing psychological distress or emotional difficulties caused by the challenges of coping with their own or someone else's illness.

She understands that illness not only affects the individual concerned, so her specialist services are available for anyone who feels they may benefit from psychological support. She has extensive experience of working with patients, family members, couples and carers.


Dr Philippa Spencer BSc (Hons), MSc, DPsych, CPsychol

Philippa, founder of The Bath Psychology Clinic is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who over the past 15 years has held various roles within the NHS and charitable sector. She has extensive experience in providing psychological therapy for those affected by acute, chronic and terminal illness. She has particular experience in the field of cancer, haematology and palliative care but has also worked with people affected by many other conditions including coronary heart disease, auto-immune disorders, kidney disease, HIV, musculoskeletal conditions and liver disease.

Whether coming to terms with an unexpected diagnosis, coping with a difficult treatment regime or managing the uncertainty that illness can bring, Philippa has a wealth of experience in utilising a range of psychological strategies to help individuals, couples and/or families cope in a more comfortable way. She is trained in a variety of psychological models meaning she can tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of each individual and has particular skills in using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

Philippa approaches her work with care, thought and compassion and combines her professionalism with warmth and approachability.
